So, I signed up to go practice archery. But I didn't realize that I wouldn't be kicking a straw target's ass. Instead I was subjected to a long lecture about proper hip, shoulder, chest placement and then encouraged to center myself, become one with the target, etc. I was not even given a bow for the first hour of my experience. That's not counting the mandatory hour-long walkthrough of the Meiji shrine and Shinto purification rituals (four total).
So, I left, and went shopping in Shinjuku -- Apparently, more my speed. I'm not very centered, I guess.

Just want to say, fantastic blog, really enjoyed reading all about your japan trip :)
I also studied Japanese when i was younger and always dreamed of going - now i'm married with a lovely chinese wife but the trip to Japan will be put off for a good few years me thinks (kid on the way)...
I hope to go anyway at some stage in the future, just to do it and play with all the gadgets and technology and breath in the culture.
You went at the perfect time - Hanami time sounds like a dream, and the pics are really beautiful...
You did well to get home at the end from the sound of it - if you don't mind me asking, what kind of laptop did you buy in akibara to get over the demise of your lovely x60? (sorry to hear about that btw...its a fantastic laptop).
Also - what are prices like in akibara? And You must have been spoiled for choice over there :) let us geeks know (think i got your link from lenovoblogs or maybe it was forum.thinkpads.com :) )
